Bannon stepping down from Breitbart post

The president was enraged again when passages from Wolff's book were released, saying that Bannon had "lost his mind".

It marks the end of an extraordinary fall from grace for a figure credited with harnessing the discontent across America to win the White House, but whose grenade-throwing tactics left him with few allies. Republican after Republican has run afoul of Trump, and just about each and every time the GOP base turned on whoever wasn't on board with the president.

Bannon said the comments in the book were not accurate.

Then Bannon placed a bad bet on Roy Moore in the Senate race in Alabama, denting the perception that he could influence or even read a red-state electorate.

"The head of Breitbart news had an extremely public break with the White House last week, when he reportedly called meetings between Trump Jnr, Manafort and Russian officials 'treasonous and unpatriotic". Mercer was also behind Bannon's ouster from Breitbart, according to the New York Times. Five days later, Bannon was out.

Bannon said in a statement on the Breitbart website following his departure, "I'm proud of what the Breitbart team has accomplished in so short a period of time in building out a world-class news platform". "There's no doubt. I built a f***ing machine at Breitbart". "He will try and finish what he started".

Bannon left Breitbart in August 2016 to join Donald Trump's presidential campaign and later served as President Trump's chief White House strategist. "And those statements still stand", he said. Which Bannon has told people is a realistic possibility. (Questions have been raised about some of the claims in Wolff's book, but Bannon hasn't disputed these quotes.) How he didn't realize that saying such things about Trump's family might cause a problem or two is the biggest mystery of all.

Some conservatives who have worked closely with Bannon were harsh in response, all but writing his political obituary in the hours after the announcement.

Steve Bannon, the former top strategic adviser to President Donald Trump, is leaving his powerful perch at Breitbart News. "But I'll say this for myself-at least I did it with my own book", she wrote. The White House admits that he had access to the Executive Mansion and journalists have corroborated his presence, so it must be assumed that Wolff was there with ears open, although quotes and points made here are not always attributed to testable sources.

As far as Bannon's future endeavors, there's speculation he may return to making documentaries.
