Ribery: Ronaldo's 2013 Ballon d'Or Stolen From Me

Bayern Munich winger Franck Ribery has blamed the French football fraternity for not giving him adequate support which paved the way for Real Madrid stalwart to clinch the FIFA Ballon D'Or in 2013.

He told Canal Football Club, "It was as if it was stolen from me".

"I won all the trophies".

Ronaldo has since won the award in 2014, 2016 and 2017, while Messi claimed it in 2015.

The Bayern Munich star said that it is "incomprehensible" that Cristiano Ronaldo picked up the prize that season after he had enjoyed such a formidable season with the Bundesliga club.

"It would be great for everyone here, also for Franck Ribery", Xavi said in an interview with BILD. Bayern Munich clinched their 4th European title by defeating arch-rivals Borrusia Dortmund 2-1 in the 2013 UEFA Champions League final at the monumental Wembley stadium. That will be of key importance for the near future. Indeed, he did not even finish second, with Lionel Messi pipping him for that spot.

"In 2010, they needed someone to blame".

Despite not winning the Ballon d'Or, the now 34-year-old has gone on to win eight more major trophies since 2013, meaning he's had a very successful career regardless of the individual disappointment of that year.

And although most fans agree that the pair's domination of the Ballon d'Or is fair, there's one player who believes he should have won the award, instead of Ronaldo, back in 2013.

"I didn't have my country behind me", he continued. It's a scar that stays with me, it was too much'.

Either the Portugal ace or Argentina's Messi has won the accolade over the past 10 years but Ribery came close five years ago, landing 23.36% of the vote compared to Ronaldo's 27.99%. I saw with my own eyes the French people who said it was for Cristiano.

The success of Jupp Heynckes since he replaced Carlo Ancelotti early in the season looks likely to be enough to secure Bayern the silverware demanded of the club this term.
