US Senate panel demands Comey's memos and Trump's tapes as controversy escalates

Trump's abrupt dismissal of James Comey last week stunned Washington.

Former FBI Assistant Director Ron Hosko, now president of the Law Enforcement Legal Defense Fund, said he thinks Trump may have underestimated Comey who, as a career FBI investigator, had been trained to make copious notes of his conversations.

Chairman Richard Burr (R-NC) speaks to the media after a Senate Select Committee on Intelligence closed door meeting at the U.S. Capitol, on May 16, 2017.

The initial New York Times report published late Tuesday said Comey had written a memo detailing his conversation with Trump, which was part of a paper trail Comey created to document his perception that the president's request was improper. A memo reportedly penned by Comey after a February meeting with Trump suggested the president had asked him to halt a probe into former national security adviser Michael Flynn's ties to Russian Federation.

It's only relatively recently that Microsoft has started to shake off the stink from Vista (and the confusing Windows 8). Microsoft is pointing its finger at the US Government, while many experts say the software giant is also accountable.

The White House denied Comey's version of events in an emailed statement that said Trump "has never asked Mr. Comey or anyone else to end any investigation".

Surrounded by multiplying questions, President Donald Trump complained Wednesday that "no politician in history" has been treated worse.

"The liability of others in Trump's likely obstruction of justice will depend on the degree of their knowing and intentional involvement", says ethics guru Norman Eisen.

White House Denial No one from the administration would respond to the memo on the record. The press conference is also the president's first public appearance after Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein announced the appointment of former FBI Director Robert Mueller to be special counsel to investigate any ties between Russian Federation and The Trump campaign. "If in fact what was said in the memo is true, it's very concerning and we need to get to the bottom of that".

"We are witnessing an obstruction of justice case unfolding in real time", said Sen. Santos is expected to ask Mr. Trump, who is making cuts to foreign aid, to renew funding to support a peace agreement between the Colombian government and the Revolutionary Armed Forces.

In previous months, Republican lawmakers were more likely to fully defend Trump - even after he and his administration made comments and policy changes that generated intense criticism. We do know from press accounts that there was ambiguity about the conversations.

Representative Barbara Comstock of Virginia, whose district is home to large numbers of Federal Bureau of Investigation and CIA employees, said Trump's disclosure of classified intelligence to the Russians is "highly troubling".

A Republican strategist close to the White House said Trump needed a strong trip to help put the past tumultuous 10 days behind him.
