Trump delays decision on Paris climate deal

There is a wide rift in the administration regarding the climate agreement, with some officials publicly airing their opinions on whether Trump should exit the accord or not.

"While the private sector can provide the investment required to build a secure, affordable and low emissions global energy system, we urge the G7 to set strong policy signals which provide the investment certainty needed to drive trillions of dollars into new clean energy investment opportunities" she went on to say. As a candidate, the president expressed doubt about climate change, but has offered a fluid stance since taking office in January.

Top White House advisers are expected to discuss whether the United States should withdraw from the landmark global climate deal struck in Paris under the Obama administration. "I have no doubt about climate change and how committed we have to be regarding this issue", said Macron in the video. Officials like Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and Trump's daughter Ivanka Trump want to stay in the pact, while Environmental Protection Agency head Scott Pruitt and strategist Stephen Bannon want to leave.

China's leader offers billions for new Silk Road initiative
Struggling countries could be saddled with Chinese loans requiring payment regardless of project performance, Fitch Ratings said. Xi has defended globalisation at a time when Trump has vowed to put "America First" in global trade and relations.

When asked about the USA position, Yvon Slingenberg, head of the European Commission's delegation, told a news conference: "We do consider that it would be quite important (for the U.S.) to stay at the table", even with Trump's pro-coal policies.

David Balton, a top USA diplomat who works on environmental issues, said there would be "no change" in US participation even if Trump ultimately decides to pull out of the Paris pact.

Trump is expected to make a final decision on whether to withdraw sometime this month.

Lawyers from the White House, State Department and Justice Department have all agreed that language doesn't allow countries to adjust their carbon reduction commitments downward - a move that would be required if the Trump administration hoped to remain in the deal while still removing the Obama-era environmental regulations that Trump has vowed to scrap.

According to NBC News , the boy's mother, Cornelia Reynolds, says she was told by the school that day that her son had "fainted". Gabriel, the statement said, "was an outstanding young man, and this is a great loss for his family and our school community".

Trump and his top climate and economic aids will kick-off discussions in earnest on Tuesday in the United States, a senior administration official said, adding that "they are meeting tomorrow at 1.30 pm". But the gathering risks being hamstrung over fears that the United States, the world's number two carbon polluter, will pull out and throw the agreement into disarray.

Some fear a US U-turn would dampen enthusiasm among other signatories for more efforts on emissions-cutting targets.

The key mission of the May 8-18 meeting in Bonn is to start drafting "rules" for putting the agreement into action: what information must countries include in their emissions updates, for example, and how must they report?

According to a senior administration official, Trump and his aides will kick-off discussions in earnest on Tuesday.
