Organizers formed the March for Science political movement to counter President Donald Trump's efforts to undo many environmental and climate regulations.
On April 22, some Cornell professors and students will be joining thousands of their counterparts at the March for Science in Washington D.C. The march is meant to demonstrate support for scientific research and evidence based policy-making, something that many scientists believe is clearly lacking in the current administration. And Trump has continued to make comments expressing doubts, not backed by science, about the risks of vaccines.
One of the most threatening of those policies is in President Trump's budget blueprint: a cut of almost $6 billion to the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
"Scientists started breaking out spontaneously in the Women's March", and several of them connected on social media to forge the plans for a demonstration in support of science, he said. Rather than forcing politicians to accept science, it is entirely possible that the march will do nothing more than provide them with an escape hatch, a justification for the idea that science is in some way biased. "With all the cuts that are being proposed from NASA to the Department of Energy", he told KQED, "I feel like I need to be a part of this and make a difference".

A surge in holiday air travel this weekend comes as airlines are making changes to their policies in the wake of a bad month. Three officers have been placed on administrative leave while the incident is investigated.
Many scientists prefer to work quietly, letting their research speak for itself.
All of these actions ignore that scientific research is a necessary government-backed activity. "Moreover, the current administration appears quite willing to censure scientists who hold views counter to their belief system". These two places are magical to the people who live there, economically important to the nation as a whole, and leading the advance of coastal environmental science.
I say it as a scientist who believes that politics has no place at the lab bench. "The march symbolizes a response to the rejection of scientific principles exhibited by large groups in this country".
"Thanks to the medical teams and scientific researchers his life was saved with an anti-clotting injection".
"This is, I think, a once-in-a-generation occasion where friends of science and scientists have shown not just a willingness but an eagerness to step into the public square", Holt said. For instance, only four percent of the world's engineering degrees are earned in the USA, as opposed to 56 percent in Asia and 17 percent in Europe. At that point, it was the largest oil spill in US history, and still ranks third behind the Exxon Valdez in 1989 and Deepwater Horizon spill in 2010.

He also called for campaigning generally to be suspended, although from midnight on Friday the law says it has to stop anyway. Fillon, for his part, pledged to maintain the state of emergency that has been in place since the November 2015 attacks .
In a political climate where the existence of climate change is actually debated and the future state of the planet is listed at the bottom of priorities, any support for the scientific method is not only important - it is necessary. Indeed, scientists at the march will also be demonstrating to push for a greater role for climate experts in policy-making.
"As each administration comes and goes, we hope to create a movement and an approach that influences and encourages those administrators to protect science, to leverage science and celebrate science", Aloma said.
We know of few, if any, people who would say yes to that question.
The March for Science is an action to call upon lawmakers to measure their decisions on evidence-based research and support government-sponsored programs that have led to remarkable advances for our society, everything from life-saving medications to innovations that have improved crop yields.
