Facebook (NASDAQ:FB) is Planning to Kill the Password

Facebook wants to change that - and eventually, to make passwords obsolete.

Facebook says the process is more secure than texts or emails asking for info.

The site recently launched a delegated account recovery for beta testing with developers.

#TIME100: Chance The Rapper, Donald Glover, Colin Kaepernick Named Most Influential People
He makes music from an unapologetically inspiring and Christian perspective - music that transcends age, race and gender. Viola Davis , Leslie Jones and Donald Glover were among the figures on Time's 100 Most Influential People of 2017 list.

For instance, if you can not remember the password on a website or app, it will use Facebook instead to verify you. You have to re-use them again and again.

Many people are skeptical about trusting Facebook with other accounts.

Rather strangely, Hill also stated that this feature would "benefit people just beginning to use the internet, who may have Facebook accounts but not an email or phone number". If, say, Facebook knows you always log in via your iPhone in California, an attempt from Russian Federation on an Android will be flagged.

Aaron Hernandez found dead
Before his acquittal, Hernandez on Wednesday was seen blowing kisses to the little girl he fathered with fiancée Shayanna Jenkins. Hernandez had reportedly gotten a new tattoo that referenced the Blood street gang after the fight, prison officials said.

But Hill insisted Facebook has safeguards in place to recognize fraudulent activity, and will alert you if anything seems amiss. For example, say you use Facebook as your backup code for your bank. The bad guys can log in to your other accounts if they manage to hack your Facebook account. Facebook will know you use the bank's services, but it doesn't know anything about your bank account.

Though developers have to now sign-up to use this tool, Facebook intends to eventually open source it, so while you might not trust the social media giant with your information, you might be more comfortable if another, more trustworthy organization would implement it.

While the program does not completely replace passwords, Facebook says it's a step to eventually get rid of them. Both firms support Yubikey, a physical key you plug into your computer that acts like a password. This of course, ignores the fact that you need an email address or a phone number to sign up to Facebook in the first place. Brad Hill assures that security on Facebook will get even better in the future.
