Roger Stone, a close confidante of president Donald Trump who previously served as an informal adviser during the 2016 U.S. election, is firmly in the crosshairs of the USA intelligence committee for alleged links to a Russian hacking campaign.
"On August 8th, Roger Stone, a longtime Trump political adviser and self-proclaimed political dirty trickster, boasts in a speech that he 'has communicated with (WikiLeaks founder Julian) Assange, ' and that more documents would be coming, including an 'October surprise, '" said Rep. Adam Schiff, the ranking member of the House Intelligence Committee.
Despite not being at Monday's House Intelligence Committee hearing, the former President Trump campaign adviser's name came up a few times.
During a House Intelligence Committee hearing, FBI Director James Comey was asked about Roger Stone.

You know they're not going to win, so you hope key people on the other team get hurt so they're not such a tough opponent down the road".
"I give you the same answer, sir", Comey replied.
To back up his point, Schiff used Stone's own Twitter account against him.
He said: 'I am anxious to rebut allegations that I had any improper or nefarious contact with any agent of the Russian state based on facts, not misleading and salacious headlines'.
Schiff also asked if the Federal Bureau of Investigation director was aware of communications between Stone, Assange and his associates.

Representatives on both sides of the aisle have advocated for the investigation into Russian interference in the general election.
The New York Times obtained the letter Stone received which was dated February 17. "I don't think I should comment".
During a hearing on Russia's election meddling, Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) noted that Stone communicated with Guccifer 2.0, a hacker that US officials believe is associated with the Russian government and that published stolen Democratic National Committee emails online.
Any suggestion otherwise, he told CNN, is "a fabrication". "I am willing to appear voluntarily if the committee isn't looking for the headline of issuing a subpoena".
